Summer is here and it is important for you protect your skin while you enjoy the beach. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, both water and sand can reflect up to 80 percent of the sunâ??s rays, adding to your overall exposure. Below are some tips on how you can protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Sunscreen - Apply sunscreen 20 minutes prior to hitting the beach to allow time for it to absorb into the skin. Be sure to re-apply every few hours as needed.
Drink Water - Be sure to drink water throughout the day. Take a bottle with you to the beach or pool.
Umbrella - Sit under an umbrella while you are watching the waves from the shore. If you donâ??t want to buy one, you can rent one.
Cover Up - Great beach accessories are broad - brimmed hats, sunglasses, long sarongs, rash guard shirts and long sleeve coverups.
Plan - The sun is most extreme between 10am and 4pm, so plan your outdoor activities before or after that time frame.
